Project Description

Everyone has experienced sadness, desperation and helplessness. When these symptoms continue long term, they are likely the signs of clinical depression. The symptoms include intense sadness, shame, lack of motivation, chronic fatigue, apathy, isolation, and many others.

Depression is a serious, yet common illness, as one is ten people will experience the symptoms, which cause changes in serotonin and dopamine production. Stressful life events, loss, divorce, unemployment are few of the many causes of depression. Postpartum depression occurs days and weeks after the baby is born and it is vital to contact a mental health professional. In order to be diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, the symptoms should persist for over two weeks. Depression is often accompanied by anxiety and trauma. The symptoms differ across people and can include aches and pains, weight fluctuations, sleep issues, and difficulty concentrating.

Best practices for treating depression are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which helps the client re-frame negative unhelpful thinking styles, as well as the Mindfulness method which teaches the client to be grounded in the moment.
