“I know what it’s like to pretend you are doing OK, living in shame and guilt. I know what it’s like to function in life doing the bare minimum that is required of you, numb or constantly anxious and worried, that someone will see through you and the game will be over. Always overwhelmed and concerned that you are not good enough, successful enough, beautiful, rich, educated enough, and “normal”. I know the feeling of discontent, pain, anger and helplessness, the fear of loss and failure. But I also know that it is possible to overcome all of this and to live a fulfilling happy life. I know, because I accomplished this for myself and I have helped others to do the same. It will not be easy. In the beginning it may look overwhelming. But as a fellow human and a professional counselor, I believe that it is possible for every person to find a way to overcome their past, the anger, shame, and isolation, and to start living a fulfilling life.”
